The second round of the Waterford Crystal sponsored Winter Series was decided last week and this time Cork and Tipperary players were to the fore. On another one of our pleasant Autumnal days the scoring did not match the weather as this round was won rather easily with a score of 74 points. The format of this particular competition was a 3 person rumble, this means that one score is recorded for the first six holes, with two scores recorded for the next six holes and all three scores are recorded for the final six holes. The winners had a reasonable good score but certainly nothing out of the ordinary. They scored 17 points for the first six holes and added another 29 points for the next six holes, which was one point under an average of five points and then they finished off with a further 28 points which was 2 points below an average of 5 points per hole. However this score was good enough to win the day and their nearest opponents from Tipperary Golf Club were two points behind. So the third round takes place on this Thursday 8th November and the format is a fourball stableford. Tee times can be booked by phoning 056/7773071 or one can now book online at www.mountjuliet.ie. The Grand Final takes place for all qualifiers next April and as usual the final will be an 18 holes singles stableford.

Results:

Winners:
Damien Wallace (6), Cork Golf Club
Paul Hayes (11), Harbour Point
Anthony O’Connell (9), Harbour Point 74 points

Second:
John Dwyer (13), Tipperary Golf Club
Michael Ryan (8)
Ann Dywer (22) 72 points

Last Sunday saw the November Hamper for the members up for decision and the format of the competition was a singles stableford over the first 16 holes. Both divisions of the hampers were won by players who have shown good overall form all the year. In the men’s section Dan Kavanagh was a decisive winner returning 37 points. Dan had a clear 3 points to spare over his nearest rival, James J. Brett, followed by Andrew Nixon who was a shot further back. This was an excellent score for Dan and he has continued his good form right through into the latter part of the year. The Ladies section was won by the Lady Captain, Brona Reidy, with 29 points and she just prevailed on the last eight holes from Sarah Newman. On Sunday 25th November, there will be a Member/Guest Fourball for hampers and again it will be decided over 16 holes because of shortage of light at this time of the year.

Winner: Dan Kavanagh (12) 37 points
Second: James J. Brett (16) 34 points
Third: Andrew Nixon (15) 33 points (last 8)
