Mount Juliet Golf Notes Monday 4th August 2008
The Residential Trophy took place on Saturday 2nd August. This was an 18 holes singles stableford competition confined to the Mount Juliet residents and there was an excellent turnout for the event. Play was off the green and red tees and the competition was “hot” on a pleasant day for golf.
The winner on a countback was Ray O’Malley who returned a fine score of 40 points which was just good enough to beat Chris McHugh by virtue of a better back nine holes. Ray had nines of 18 and 22 points against Chris’s 19 and 21 points. In third place came Joe Tuohy with 39 points. Ray blanked the 7th and 11th holes but otherwise he was very consistent and upped his game considerably on the back seven holes which he covered in one over par gross.
The Ladies section was won by Michelle Reynolds with 37 points. There was a special prize for the Juniors which was won by Iona Stevenson with 36 points. Michelle had nines of 21 and 16 points to win the ladies section and Iona had a great last nine holes of 23 points.

The McCalmont Cup Matchplay
The McCalmont Cup Matchplay has now reached the semi-final stages with John Mulholland to play Andrew Nixon and Pat Price Sr. to play Michael Doyle. The semi-final must be played by Sunday 31st August.
The Junior Day
The Junior Day took place on Friday 1st August and again there was a good turnout from the under ages with a full evening’s activities for all which included the championship putting course and an eighteen hole singles for the more mature juniors. Prizes were presented after some refreshments and to borrow a certain cliché “there was something for everyone in the audience”.

Summer Series – August
The Summer Series for August takes place on Tuesday 12th August and there is a full timesheet in operation with a “shotgun” start at 2pm. The Captain’s Prize to the Ladies and the Lady Captain’s Prize to the men is scheduled for 17th August and with the running of this competition it heralds the end of the long evenings and no foreseeable improvement in the weather.
