Golf Tip from the Pro
Keep the Left Arm Relaxed
During the set up position, a secure grip is very
important combined with a "relaxed" left arm.
A lot of golfers put too much emphasis on the
"straight" left arm which can easily result in tense
muscles. Anything that creates tension in the mind or
the body will erode the athleticism in the swing.
Even though having a rigidly straight left arm will feel
powerful once you commence the backswing,
everything will be restricted including the wrist hinge
and shoulder turn (pic 1).

Allowing the left arm to soften slightly during the backswing will reduce tension in the muscles. The more relaxed muscles allow the arms to travel faster than the body which promotes rotation of the torso through impact.

Swinging the club with just the left arm will give you the proper feel for how the left arm supports the swing and not block it. With this exercise, you will notice the wrist hinge (pic 2) during the backswing and the natural folding of the left arm in the forward swing. So keep the
