Golf Tip from the Pro

Picture 1 - Open the Left Foot for Faster Hips

Open the Left Foot for Faster Hips

A very important golf tip for obtaining clubhead speed is to have the hips moving fast, ie rotating to the left through impact resulting in the weight transferred onto the left foot and the belt buckle facing the target.

Many golfers restrict this in the set up by focusing too much on a straight parallel alignment. As a result, the left foot is left too straight. A subtle shift in the set up position can give you a boost in clubhead speed. Pull your left foot slightly away from the target line, 2 inches at the most, and flare your toes out towards the target slightly (approximately 15 degrees) – (pic 2 below).

This adjustment will restrict your hip turn on the backswing, but it will let you fire your hips on the downswing much faster. One thing you have to keep in mind with this gofl tip, is to make sure your left foot is the only thing that shifts open in relation to the target line.
