Golf Tip from the Pro

Keep Your Eye on the Ball & Keeping Your Head Down

A very important part of the golf swing is the ability to keep your eye on the ball. However, it is essential not to confuse this with "keeping your head down".
Keeping the head down creates a lot of tension in the arms and shoulders during the set up position (pic 1 - below).

From this set up, the swing becomes too much hands and arms with very little body turn (pic 2 - below).

As golfers, we are guilty of lifting our head too soon through impact resulting in a poorly struck or wayward shot, our playing partners are only too happy at this point to tell us that "you lifted your head". Lifting our head too soon is certainly a problem but keeping our head down is not the cure.

The cure is to create a good posture where the back is straight but tilted forward (pic 3 - below) with the weight on the centre of the feet.

During the backswing, allow your body to turn to your right and then during impact, release your hands and arms past your body with the shoulders turning to the left allowing you to "keep your eye on the ball" (pic 4 - below)
